Hawkins earns award from GLVC

ROMEOVILLE, ILL. - Adriel Hawkins of Missouri S&T was selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoors Track Athlete of the Year after his weekend performances at the league championships at Lewis University.

Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) won the triple jump Friday and the 200-meter dash Saturday. It was his second outdoor conference 200-meter title. He also won the indoor conference title in the 200 earlier this year on his way to earning Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the Miners.

Missouri S&T won its first men's conference title since 2009, finishing with 172 points.

Matthew Schaefer of Truman State also earned all-GLVC honors at the championships.

Schaefer (Helias High School) finished second in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.71.

The Truman men finished fifth with 63 points.

In the women's portion of the meet, Missouri S&T's Katlyn Meier earned points in three events.

Meier (Vienna High School) was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.73) and part of the Miners' relay teams that took second in the 4x400 (3:57.13) and sixth in the 4x100 (49.55).
