Lincoln football releases schedule

The second-ever Missouri Classic, five home contests and a brand new slate of conference opponents highlight the Lincoln football team's 2014 schedule.

The Blue Tigers, who are joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference as a football-only member, will kick off the season against Langston at 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at Arrowhead Stadium. Lincoln claimed a 47-37 win against Grambling State in last year's inaugural Missouri Classic.

This will be the 61st meeting between Lincoln and Langston, a series that dates back to 1924.

The Blue Tigers will open their home slate the following week with their first-ever GLVC game, albeit against a familiar opponent. Lincoln will take on Southwest Baptist, another MIAA program joining the GLVC as a football-only member in 2014, at 2 p.m. Sept. 13.

Lincoln will take on Quincy at home the following Saturday at 2 p.m., before facing Truman State in its first road game of the season at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. The Blue Tigers will follow that contest with its second of three night games currently on the schedule, as Lincoln will travel to Liberty to play GLVC opponent William Jewell at 6 p.m. Oct. 4.

Two more home contests then await the Blue Tigers, who will play another GLVC member, St. Joseph's, on Oct. 11 before stepping out of conference play to host Texas College for Homecoming Oct. 18. Both of those games are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Lincoln will resume GLVC play at Indianapolis at 6 p.m. Oct. 25.

The Blue Tigers will have a bye week Nov. 1 before concluding the season against two more conference opponents. Lincoln hosts McKendree at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 in its final home game of the year, before ending its season at Missouri S&T in Rolla at 1 p.m. Nov. 15.
