In a short-notice start Friday night, Missouri junior John Miles gutted through a career-long 7 1/3 inning, striking out five and walking one in a 4-3 loss to Mississippi.

Miles was called into action just 30 minutes before the game after Brett Graves, who was scheduled to start, was hit in the side of the head by an errant throw during Mississippi's infield and outfield warmup.

Milles allowed four runs on eight hits, but three runs and three hits - including two home runs - came in the first inning.

Missouri (11-10) tallied a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, but the comeback fell short.

Kendall Keeton and Shane Segovia both had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Tigers at the plate.
