Cole County, Jefferson City to conduct tornado drill

The National Weather Service, in conjunction with the State Emergency Management Agency, has declared this week Severe Weather Awareness Week for the State of Missouri.

On Tuesday, the Jefferson City Police Department's 911 Communications Center will activate the outdoor warning sirens at 1:30 p.m., which will begin the 40th Annual Statewide Tornado Drill.

Those within the Cole County and Jefferson City area can expect to hear a voice announcement over the sirens indicating the start of the test, which will then be followed by an alert tone that lasts approximately three minutes. When the alert tone stops, there will be another voice announcement signifying the completion of the test.

In the case of severe weather, such as a significant winter storm, the test may be postponed until Thursday.
