Post 5 wins two

ST. LOUIS - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 baseball team picked up a pair of wins Sunday at the Mid-America Showcase Tournament.

The local team rolled to a 10-2 win against the St. Louis Prospects in the opener, before holding off the Prospect Nash for a 5-0 victory in the nightcap.

Brenden Ogletree was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI, while Corey Beard was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead Post 5 at the plate in Game 1.

Logan Bax had a hit and drove in three runs, while A.J. Elsworth was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Trevor Schnieders, Hayden Strobel and Alex Johnson all added hits to help pace the offense.

Austin Sachse picked up the win after allowing two runs (none earned) on five hits, while striking out five and walking three in six innings.

Beard pitched the bottom of the seventh without allowing a hit and striking out one.

The Post 5 pitching staff continued to dominate hitters in Game 2 as Cody Stegemann and Elsworth combined to throw a one-hitter.

Stegemann didn't allow a hit, walked four and struck out six in five innings of work to earn the win in the nightcap.

Elsworth closed the door, allowing one hit and striking out one in two innings.

Post 5 (11-4) will travel Friday to Fairview Heights, Ill., to compete in a tournament.
