Post 5 Auxiliary splits in tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Auxiliary team split a pair of games at the Southeast Missouri Midwest Select Tournament on Friday.

Post 5 suffered a 7-4 loss to the Midwest Mules in the opener before bouncing back for a 5-4 win against the Missouri Bulls in the nightcap.

Logan Vogel allowed six earned runs on nine hits, while striking out three to take the loss in the opener.

Vogel and Adam Grunden had two hits apiece to lead Post 5 at the plate.

In Game 2, Grunden allowed four earned runs and struck out seven to pick up the complete-game victory. Post 5 scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth after Sam Bowles, Alec Verhoff, Grunden, Vogel, Logan Roberts connected with five consecutive hits. Roberts had two hits and drove in two runs, while Vogel added two hits to lead the local team at the plate.

Post 5 (5-3) will play two games today.
