State Courts Administrator Gregory J. Linhares is going to be the new clerk for the St. Louis-based U.S. District Court for Eastern Missouri.
The Missouri Supreme Court now is accepting applications from people who want to succeed Linhares, whose resignation is effective June 30.
The courts administrator is expected to interact daily with judicial officers and public officials at the state and national level, a brochure on the position said.
Applicants must have a minimum of six years experience in judicial administration, public administration, inter-branch relations, public budgeting or governmental policy development and implementation.
The next courts administrator has big shoes to fill.
"Greg Linhares has been an invaluable asset in leading our state courts, working with equal diligence with every level of Missouri's judiciary, from court clerks in our smallest counties to Supreme Court judges," Chief Justice Mary R. Russell said in a news release. "His insight has helped empower our local courts to implement innovative ideas, and he has provided tools that help us work as consistently and proficiently as possible throughout the state.
Linhares has served as state courts administrator since April 2008, and he previously served as commission counsel and legislative liaison for the Supreme Court of Missouri from December 2002-April 2008. He previously worked in a variety of staff positions in the Legislature.
Until the position is filled, Gary Waint will serve as interim state courts administrator.
Waint began his Missouri courts career as a juvenile officer in central Missouri. He previously served as interim state courts administrator in 2007 and 2008, and retired as deputy state courts administrator in 2012. He also served several months as interim Cole County courts administrator in 2012.
