Lake area man killed in his second boating accident of night

A Kaiser man was killed Saturday night when his personal watercraft slammed into the walkway of a dock not long after he left the scene of another injury boat accident.

Gene Grumbois, 29, was killed at 9:55 p.m. Saturday near the 4-mile marker of the Big Niangua. Grumbois was driving a 2010 Seadoo personal watercraft when he struck a dock walkway and was ejected from the craft. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Just 40 minutes earlier and about four miles downstream at the main channel, Grumbois' PWC struck the rear of a Lowe pontoon driven by Tracie Pillow, 29, of St. Charles.

Grumbois left the scene of the incident, but his passenger, Ernest Howard, 41, St. Charles, suffered moderate injuries. A pontoon occupant, Teressa Underwood, 33, St. Charles, suffered minor injuries. Both Howard and Underwood were transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment.
