Post 5 Seniors win pair of games in Blue Springs

BLUE SPRINGS - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors won a pair of games Friday in the Fike Post 499 Wood Bat Tournament.

Post 5 opened with an 8-4 win against St. Joseph Post 11. Cody Stegemann got the win, working 62/3 innings. He allowed five hits and four walks while striking out seven. Cole Distler got the final out for the save.

Post 5 finished with nine hits, five for extra bases. Corey Beard had a triple and a double, while Austin Sachse had two doubles. Dylan Brauner drove in two runs.

Post 5 then scored three runs in the second inning of its next game and made them stand up in a 3-2 victory against Rods A's of Blue Springs.

Rods A's scored two in the top of the first before Post 5 got its three in the bottom of the second. Distler drove in two runs, while A.J. Elsworth had the other RBI. Logan Bax, Elsworth and Stegemann scored the runs. Elsworth had three of Post 5's six hits.

Trevor Schnieders went the distance to get the win, allowing four hits and two unearned runs in seven innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.

Post 5 had five errors in the contest.

Post 5 wrapped up pool play with a 3-1 record. The tournament continues today, with Post 5 playing a bonus game.
