Tuscumbia, St. Elizabeth nab wins in Eldon Tournament

ELDON, Mo. - The Tuscumbia Lady Lions are for real.

Tuscumbia, ranked third in Class 1, upset North Technical, ranked seventh in Class 3, 73-64 in the opening round of the Eldon Tournament on Thursday night.

Kendra Vaughan paced the Lady Lions with 20 points, Tempary Gunter poured in 14 points and 12 rebounds, TaKayla Gunter tossed in 17 points and Summer Rush chipped in with 12.

Kaliah Miller paced North Technical with 20 points while Anjanee Miller had 13.

Tuscumbia trailed 21-18 after one quarter and 42-41 at halftime before tying the score at 54 entering the final period.

Tuscumbia (15-2) plays today against the Eldon-Carnahan winner.

In other Eldon Tournament action, St. Elizabeth throttled Christian 58-30.

The Lady Hornets led 15-8 after one quarter, 30-11 at halftime and 46-17 after three periods.

Savannah Stiles paced St. Elizabeth with 18 points, Payton Holtmeyer tossed in 12 and Allie Heckemeyer finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and nine assists.

St. Elizabeth (9-6) plays at 9 p.m. today against the Marquette-Carl Junction winner.
