Abraham Lincoln noted that "There are some fleas that a dog just can't scratch."
Your paper has cleverly positioned cartoonist Jim Dyke in a safe place on your metaphorical dog. By doing so, you may express conservative ideological positions with relative impunity in the name of conventional wisdom or common sense humor.
This is brilliant. It allows your paper to ignore or blunt liberal retorts to Dyke's cartoons as well as demands for more journalistic responsibility on your part regardless of how meretricious Dyke's work is.
Well done. Good entertainment but bad curatorial journalism.
