Lady Jays, Lady Pintos win at tourney

The Jefferson City Lady Jays vaulted to a 20-3 lead after one quarter Monday and cruised to a 56-26 victory against the Harrisonville Lady Wildcats in the opening round of the California Tournament.

Kezia Martin led Jefferson City, which led 31-14 at the half, with 18 points. Megan Foster and Nicole Martin both added 13.

Jefferson City, the No. 3 seed, will face either California or Southern Boone in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kelsey Roush scored 23 points as the California Lady Pintos claimed a 51-49 win against Southern Boone later on Monday night.

California jumped out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter, but Southern Boone outscored the Lady Pintos 13-6 in the second quarter to take a 22-19 lead into the break. The Lady Eagles maintained a 41-34 lead after three quarters, but California outscored Southern Boone 17-8 in the final period to secure the victory.

Sydney Deeken added 12 points for the Lady Pintos (9-3), who will face Jefferson City at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a semifinal game.

Kylie Shoot poured in 23 points, while Faryn Griffin added 13 to lead Southern Boone.
