KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Bashaara Graves made a tiebreaking basket with 2:48 remaining and No. 4 Tennessee held No. 25 Syracuse scoreless for the final 5-plus minutes in the Lady Vols' 57-55 victory Friday night.

Graves' basket broke a 55-all tie and ended up as the final points. Syracuse (1-1) missed its last eight field-goal attempts after tying the score on Abby Grant's 3-pointer with 5:12 left.

Syracuses's Brittney Sykes was at the foul line and had a chance to tie it with 5.4 seconds remaining, but the first of her two free-throw attempts hit both the front and back of the rim before falling out. Tennessee's Mercedes Russell got the rebound off Sykes' second miss.

Graves finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds to help Tennessee (3-0) to its 25th straight home victory. Alexis Peterson scored 19 points for Syracuse.

NO. 8 MARYLAND 97, DETROIT 41

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Freshman Kiah Gillespie had 18 points and No. 8 Maryland gave coach Brenda Frese her 400th victory.

Frese is 400-134 in 17 seasons as a college head coach, going 343-104 in 14 seasons at Maryland. She spent two years at Ball State and one at Minnesota.

Brene Moseley added 13 points and 10 assists for the Terrapins (3-0), and Kristen Confroy had 12 points.

Rosanna Reynolds scored 15 points for Detroit (0-3).

NO. 21 CALIFORNIA 64, UC RIVERSIDE 58

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Courtney Range scored 20 points to help California beat UC Riversid.

Range had four 3-pointers and is 7 of 14 this season. Asha Thomas added 16 points for the Bears (3-0).

Rejane Verin had 17 points for UC Riverside (2-1).

NO. 24 CHATTANOOGA 53, SOUTHERN MISS 48, OT

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Moses Johnson hit three free throws in the final 11 seconds of overtime, and Jasmine Joyner had 20 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks for Chattanooga.

Keiana Gilbert scored 12 points for Chattanooga (3-1). Jerontay Clemons scored 15, and Caitlin Jenkins had 14 for Southern Mississippi (1-2).
