Snow accumulates as winter storm crosses Missouri

Winter Weather Advisory in effect overnight in Mid-Missouri

A fast-moving winter storm is bringing significant snow and much colder air to the region through Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow spreading from northern Missouri into central Missouri. The snow may be heavy at times overnight, with several inches of accumulation expected by daybreak on Thursday.

Strong northwest winds on Thursday may create blowing snow in rural, open areas. Holiday travelers are urged to use caution.

The NWS issued the following weather statement effective for central Missouri including Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Osage, Maries, Moniteau, Morgan, Maries and Miller counties. This includes the towns of California, Columbia, Fulton, Jefferson City, Linn and Vienna, and the Lake of the Ozarks area.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW... IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM CST THURSDAY.

  • TIMING... SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING.
  • ACCUMULATIONS... 3 TO 5 INCHES OF SNOW.
  • WINDS... NORTH 5 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.
  • IMPACTS... TRAVEL WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS DUE TO SLICK ROADWAYS DURING THE EVENING. INCREASING GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS THIS EVENING WILL RESULT IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING FURTHER LIMITING VISIBILITY.
