Jefferson City's figure skaters will head "Into the Wild" this weekend at the 52nd Annual Ice Show at the Washington Park Ice Arena.

"It's going to be a journey into a zoo," said Brent Echols, associate skating director.

All of the musical selections and costumes hint at this year's theme. Some of the hits include: "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club, and "Bear Necessities" from Disney's The Junglebook, to name only a few.

"We're going to have some "electric eels' do the Electric Slide," Echols said.

This year's show features solos by two senior skaters: Carly Potts, who will be playing a skunk in "Love Stinks," and Jessica Van Eschen, who will be skating as a bluebird to the theme, "Believe It or Not," from the American hit show, "Greatest American Hero."

The show also features two quartets and two trios.

Between 160 and 170 skaters will appear in this year's performance, Echols said.

He said skating is experiencing a boost in interest as a result of the recent Sochi Olympics.

The shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youths and can be purchased either at the ice arena or at the door. Children 2 and younger enter free.
