Dusheke's buzzer-beater gives Calvary Lutheran first-ever district win

February 25th, 2014 in News

GLASGOW - The Calvary Lutheran Lions got their first win ever in district play, and they did it in dramatic fashion.

With the game tied at 47 and out of timeouts, the Lions ran a perfect inbounds play to free Trevor Dusheke, who took a pass from Beau Monson. The senior then canned a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving Calvary a 50-47 win against Prairie Home in the Class 1 District 9 Tournament.

It was a game of wild momentum swings. Calvary jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the game, only to see their lead shrink to 17-15 after one quarter.

The fourth-seeded Panthers then outscored the Lions 16-4 in the second quarter to take a 31-21 lead into the locker room.

But Calvary turned the tables in the third, outscoring Prairie Home 17-8 to get within 39-38 heading to the fourth quarter.

Dusheke ended up with 16 points to pace Calvary (12-10), while Monson had 14 points and six assists. Hance Sommerer chipped in with nine points for the Lions.

Calvary, the fifth seed in the event, will now play top-seeded Glasgow at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals.
