Man gets 5 years for chase

February 4th, 2014 in News

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to five years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in connection with a chase in August 2012.

Bruce Dudenhoeffer, 34, was charged with second-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

According to police reports, officers observed a parked vehicle believed to be involved in narcotics trafficking in the 1400 block of Elizabeth Street.

Officers saw Dudenhoeffer and another man get into the vehicle and leave the area; an officer followed.

Noticing the vehicle had expired tags, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Swifts Highway, but Dudenhoeffer failed to yield. A pursuit began and continued westbound on Swifts Highway, then northbound on Southwest Boulevard.

The pursuit continued until the vehicle attempted to make a right to travel onto westbound U.S. 54, when Dudenhoeffer appeared to lock up his brakes, skidding into a tractor-trailer that was stopped at 54 and Missouri Boulevard.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt, nor was the pursuing officer.
