ELDON, Mo. - It came down to the wire.
Savannah Stiles knocked down a free-throw with 3.5 seconds left as the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets knocked off state-ranked Tuscumbia 51-50 in the championship game of the Eldon Tournament on Saturday night.
Stiles scored a game-high 20 points, while Allie Heckemeyer added 13 points and nine rebounds to help lift the Lady Hornets past Tuscumbia, ranked No. 3 in Class 1, for the second time in five days.
After claiming a 72-59 win against the Lady Lions on Monday, St. Elizabeth and Tuscumbia traded leads 20 times and neither team led by more than four points throughout the contest.
The Lady Hornets led 11-10 after the first quarter and took a 23-20 lead into halftime. Tuscumbia outscored St. Elizabeth 15-12 to tie the game at 35 entering the final period.
Kendra Vaughan scored her 1,000th career point early in the game and went on to finish with 15 to lead the Lady Lions, who suffered their third loss in the last five games after starting out the year 14-0. Tempary Gunter chipped in with 11 points to help pace Tuscumbia.
All seven players who entered the game scored for St. Elizabeth.
The Lady Hornets (11-6) will face Plato in the first round of the Crocker Tournament on Monday.
Tuscumbia (16-3) will host Jamestown on Monday.
