The NCAA has denied the University of Oklahoma's request to grant former Missouri receiver Dorial Green-Beckham eligibility for the 2014 season.
After being dismissed from the Missouri football team, Green-Beckham had the option to transfer to a FCS school or sit out a season before playing for a FBS school, but Oklahoma tried to get Green-Beckham on the field immediately with a waiver citing the "run-off" rule. The rule lets transfer players play right away if they were forced out of their last team for reasons beyond their control.
The NCAA decided that was not the case.
Green-Beckham was dismissed from the Missouri football team in April after allegedly breaking into his girlfriend's house and pushing her roommate down the stairs. No charges were filed, but the alleged victim told police she was afraid to press charges because of the "community backlash" that could come with reporting a star football player. Green-Beckham was involved in a federal burglary investigation.
He had legal problems at Missouri before the incident. He had two drug-related arrests, one of which resulted in a guilty plea for trespassing.
"The University accepts that decision and will continue to provide the appropriate assistance to Dorial, just as it does with other students, in helping him grow personally from the many opportunities available to him at OU," a University of Oklahoma statement read.
Green-Beckham will sit out a year at Oklahoma, and it is questionable whether he will ever play for the Sooners, because he will be eligible for the 2015 NFL draft. Green-Beckham had his best year in 2013 with Missouri, catching 59 passes for 883 yards and 12 touchdowns. A graduate of Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Green-Beckham was rated the nation's No. 1 recruit by Rivals.com in 2012.
