Skating benefit slated for skating director

A Skate for Rachel benefit for Rachel Bruemmer is today at Jefferson City's Washington Park Ice Arena.

Bruemmer, who is an ice arena skating director and who has been with Parks and Recreation for 18 years, was recently diagnosed with cancer. She is undergoing treatment with a prognosis that looks positive. Proceeds from the skate will be used for Bruemmer's treatment expenses.

Skating sessions are 9 a.m.-noon; 12:30-3:30 p.m.; 4-7 p.m.; 7:20-10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.- 2 a.m.

As part of the event, skaters will pay to skate during the scheduled sessions. Adults will skate for $4.50; and youth 17 and under will skate for $3.50. Skate rental is $2.50, and walkers are $2. An all-day rate is $20.

There will also be raffles, games, prizes, turkey bowling and more.
