Shooting blamed on drug deal

Court documents say a drug deal led to Friday's shooting on East Dunklin Street that left one man injured.

Javier Morris, 17; Dennis Summers, 24; Onterion Sullivan, 20; Keiondrey Morris, 18; Kaleb Gilpin, 17; and a 16-year-old male juvenile, all from Jefferson City, are each facing counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

A Jefferson City police probable cause statement shows Summers told authorities he drove Javier to the residence to purchase marijuana.

Summers and Javier realized they did not receive as much as they believed they should have.

Summers obtained a 9mm handgun, got the rest of the group in a vehicle and drove back to the apartment where the drugs were purchased.

Summers said he gave the gun to Javier, who got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots toward the apartment, one of which struck the male victim in the torso.

The resident of the apartment, Shainel McCallum, 27, has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after telling authorities she was selling the drug out of her residence.
