The Jefferson City Police Department participated in the statewide Youth Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign from March 15-31.
During the enforcement effort, officers issued 532 tickets.
Those infractions and the number of tickets were: no seat belts, 49; no child restraints, 7; speeding, 148; following too close, 14; red light violations, 25; driving while intoxicated, 4; driving while suspended or revoked, 26; driving without a valid license, 30; no insurance, 96; minor in possession of alcohol, 7; and other traffic offenses, 126.
Despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, 33 percent of teens do not buckle up, authorities have said. Eight out of 10 Missouri teens killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled.
