St. Elizabeth captures softball title

VIENNA, Mo. -- The St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets went 3-0 Saturday to win the four-team, round-robin Vienna Invitational.

The Lady Hornets dropped Tuscumbia 7-0 before routing Stoutland 20-0.

Regan Wilde picked up the win against Tuscumbia, tossing a one-hitter. Sarah Heckemeyer went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Savannah Stiles, Emma Kemna and Mikayla Otto all had two hits and an RBI, while Allie Heckemeyer went 2-for-3.

St. Elizabeth scored 16 runs before the first out was recorded against Stoutland. Taylor Helton was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit. She also went 2-for-3. Stiles went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, Kemna went 2-for-2 and Courtney Scheulen and Amber Struemph both had two RBI.

That set a championship game with Vienna, which had topped Stoutland 10-5 and beaten Tuscumbia 5-4.

In the title game, St. Elizabeth topped Vienna 5-2.

Wilde was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits while striking out one. Stiles collected three hits, finishing a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Kemna added a pair of doubles, Otto went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Wilde had two hits.

Sloane Snodgrass had two hits and one stolen base for Vienna (10-6), which will play Monday at Iberia.
