WESTPHALIA - There's a first time for everything.

The Fatima boys soccer team topped Helias for the first time in program history, picking up a 2-1 victory Thursday night at the Knights of Columbus Field.

"It was a big win for us," Fatima head coach Kirby Keth said. "They just seemed to make a decision tonight they were going to bring their game, play for 80 full minutes and give themselves an opportunity to win the game. We did a nice job."

Helias got an early goal from Braden Remmert with an assist from Austin Sachse to take a 1-0 lead.

"I thought, "Let's see what we're made out of,'" Keth said.

Fatima responded when leading scorer Evan Schulte found the back of the net.

The Comets then took the lead for good not even two minutes into the second half, as Kyle Smith slotted home after a corner kick eventually wound up at his feet.

"Helias had some great opportunities to tie it up," Keth said. "The ball just bounced for us."

Fatima (7-5) hosts Crocker on Monday while Helias (7-1) is back in action at 5 p.m. today against Raymore-Peculiar in the Capital City Invitational.

Helias won Thursday' JV game 3-1. Zach Simon had two goals for Helias while Grant Stokes had the other goal. Nick Hafner had an assist. The Helias JV team is now 5-4-2.
