JOPLIN, Mo. - It didn't take long for the Lincoln Blue Tigers' momentum to dissipate following their historic win against Grambling State.
Missouri Southern scored early and often in a 59-10 trouncing of Lincoln on Saturday afternoon at Hughes Stadium in the MIAA Network Game of the Week.
Missouri Southern racked up a whopping 607 yards rushing to go along with seven touchdowns on the ground.
The Lions scored 76 seconds into the contest on a 7-yard run from Giresse Forchu and added a 28-yard touchdown scamper from Ejay Johnson seven minutes later to go up 14-0.
Following a 23-yard field goal from Andrew Fishel that put Lincoln on the scoreboard, Terrance Allen scurried 54 yards for a touchdown to put Missouri Southern up 21-3 after one quarter of play.
Missouri Southern got rushing touchdowns from J.J. Jones (21 yards), Chris Barnwell (75 yards) and Forchu (2 yards) in the second quarter as the Lions built a 42-3 advantage.
Morris Henderson found the end zone from 10 yards out for Lincoln's first touchdown at the 3:17 mark of the second period, and Missouri Southern led 42-10 at halftime.
The Lions added a 37-yard field goal from Sean Seefeldt and a 56-yard fumble return from Jason Brown in the third quarter to go ahead 52-10.
Jones then added a 28-yard touchdown run in the fourth to cap the scoring.
Lincoln amassed 364 yards of total offense (232 passing, 132 rushing), but couldn't keep up with the high-powered Missouri Southern attack (658 total yards).
Barnwell and Jones both surpassed the century mark for the Lions, gaining 161 and 109 yards on the ground, respectively. Henderson led Lincoln with 68 rushing yards.
Jacob Morris went 26-of-40 for 232 yards and one interception for the Blue Tigers. The Lions' Jay McDowell didn't have to throw much, but was effective when called upon, going 4-of-5 for 51 yards.
Khiry Draine caught six passes for 128 yards for Lincoln.
Lincoln (1-2) finally gets a home game next Saturday when the Blue Tigers host perennial MIAA powerhouse Pittsburg State at 2 p.m. at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
