Mo. child Medicaid enrollment rates near average

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The number of eligible children enrolled in Missouri's health care programs appears to be right around the national average.

An analysis by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that 87.2 percent of children nationally who qualify for Medicaid or the government-sponsored Children's Health Insurance Program were participating in those programs in 2011.

Missouri's participation rate of 86.5 percent of eligible children was very close to that national average.

The report estimated that Missouri had 77,000 eligible children who weren't enrolled in the government-sponsored health care programs in 2011.

As of this summer, Missouri had slightly more than 525,000 children enrolled in its MO HealthNet program.
