JC and Helias cross country teams fare well at Ray-Pec

PECULIAR, Mo. - The Jefferson City and Helias cross country teams placed high at the Raymore-Peculiar Invitational on Saturday.

The Jefferson City boys took home a second-place finish in the large school division.

Eli Jacobs led the Jays in eighth place with a time of 16:59. Other finishers for Jefferson City were Lucas Theroff (ninth, 17:04.30), Jackson Schwartz (10th, 17:13.60), Jack Gamble (19th, 17:39.70), Saxon Teubner (21st, 17:40.90), Will Pierce (22nd, 17:43.30) and Courtney Fitch (27th, 18:09.30).

Ray-Pec won the event with 29 points. The Jays had 67 points. Kearney was third with 69.

The Lady Jays took fourth in the girls portion. Emily Deeken finished third with a time of 19:30. Other finishers for the Lady Jays were Lindsey Biesemeyer (13th, 20:20.30), Tori Bonnot (25th, 20:54.90), Jaycie Sabala (29th, 21:05) Madison Hart (42nd, 21:35.80), Brenna Duncan (46th, 21:48.90) and Michaela Krause (50th, 22:03.40).

Lee's Summit West was first with 63 points followed by Kearney with 71 and St. Teresa's Academy with 76. The Lady Jays finished with 112 points.

The Crusaders and Lady Crusaders both took second place in the small school portion of the Ray-Pec Invitational.

The Crusaders had three of the top ten finishers and were led by Matt Lorang who finished fourth with a time of 18:08.40. Other Helias finishers included Evan Block (sixth, 18:16.40), Elliot Knernschield (ninth, 18:32.40), Logan Prenger (24th, 19:44.10), Jonathan Niekamp (26th, 19:56.30), Jared Belt (40th, 20:34) and Zachary Smith (45th, 20:00.20)

Grain Valley took home the small school title with 29 points. Helias had 57 and West Platte was third with 79.

The Lady Crusaders were led by Kaitlyn Shea's second-place finish (19:27.10). Other Lady Crusader finishers were Kayla Yanskey (10th, 21:19.40), Molly Light (11th, 21:22.90), Baylee Francka (12th, 21:27.30), Lanie Hentges (17th, 22:05) and Kylie Mullholland (24th, 22:38.20)
