Lady Jays bring home first at tennis invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Lady Jays left Springfield with some hardware.

Jefferson City defeated Glendale 8-1 on Saturday to take home first place in the Southwest Missouri Invitational.

The Lady Jays won five of six singles matches as Kelly Raithel (6-3, 6-3), Paige Smith (6-4, 6-3), Eden Hoogveld (6-0, 6-2) Kirsten Schmidt (4-6, 6-0, 18-16 match tiebreaker), and Athira Nambiar (6-2, 6-4) all won their matches. Hailey Snellen dropped her match (3-6, 5-7).

Jefferson City swept the doubles portion as the team of Smith and Hoogveld (8-1) Raithel and Schmidt (8-4) and Nambiar and Snellen (8-2) were all victorious.

The Lady Jays won a pair of bonus matches as Delta Verslues won 7-4 and Madeline Brown won 8-0.

Jefferson City is back in action Monday at home against Rolla.
