With the Gallery of 100 Flags flying nearby, New Bloomfield area residents will gather Sunday for their sixth annual Celebrate America event.

It will run from 3-6 p.m. in the New Bloomfield City Park.

"We honor area veterans and invite the community and area residents to come together for an old fashioned outdoor party," organizer Jane Hurtt said.

The Gallery of 100 Flags will be displayed around the New Bloomfield Cemetery.

"We have purchased new flags and they will be flown for the first time at this event," Hurtt said. "We are proud of the success of this event in the past and look forward to an even greater success this year."

The annual event is sponsored by the New Bloomfield Area Civic Association.

Participants are urged to bring their own lawn chairs for the event in the park next to the New Bloomfield Fire Protection District building.

Music for the event will be provided by Lydia Garwood starting at 3 p.m., followed by "The Posse" band from 4-6 p.m.

Registration for veterans attending the event will be at 3 p.m. They will be recognized and honored in a ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

Registration will start at 3 p.m. for the Adorable Legs Contest to benefit Honor Flights for a Washington monument tour of World War II and Korean War veterans. Winners will be announced at 5:30 p.m.

Special events for children will include a duck pond, panning for gold and face painting.

A new event this year, the Beautiful Baby Parade at 4:15 p.m. Registration for babies up to 24 months will begin at 3 p.m.

A bicycle/tricycle parade of children will be at 3:45 p.m., followed by a storybook character parade of youngsters at 4 p.m.

Residents and area businesses have donated items assembled in gift bags to be raffled.

Various raffles will include individual items displayed at Bank Star One in New Bloomfield prior to the event.

Raffle drawings will be at 5:45 p.m. Gift bags and 50-50 raffle drawings will be at 6 p.m.

"We are always appreciative of the generous donations and support we receive from our friends," Hurtt said. "We again are asking for help with this event. The donor names will be displayed unless we are instructed otherwise."
