Unable to appeal to a prospective voter's sense of urgency, election officials hope convenience will be an attraction.
Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander on Monday reminded Missourians an Oct. 9 voter registration deadline looms to participate in November elections.
His reminder lacks urgency because 2013 is an off-year for regular elections. Other than special elections or ballot issues - there are none in Cole County - the polls will be closed on Nov. 5.
In connection with the September observance of National Voter Registration Month, Kander is urging eligible voters to become registered voters.
"I want to make sure all eligible Missourians have the opportunity to participate in our democracy," he said. "I hope eligible Missourians take time this month to register to vote or, if already registered, check to make sure that their voter registration information is current and accurate."
Perhaps the most compelling argument to register to vote now was offered by the Cole County clerk's office.
The local election authority pointed out people will rarely find a more convenient opportunity to register.
The lack of urgency translates into no waiting, no lines and no hassle.
Kander said voter registration materials are available online at www.GoVoteMissouri.com.
Paper forms can be picked up at post offices and license offices and from local election officials. The Cole County clerk's office is located on the second floor of the courthouse annex, 311 E. High St.
Deadline pressure may be one motivator, but a better time to act may be now, while you're thinking about voter registration and hassle-free convenience awaits.
