Little James nodded his head and said "Daisy," as Osage Beach animal control and compliance officer Bob Chatham asked what kind of breed his dog was at the Bow Wow Contest during the 13th Annual Osage Beach Fall Festival Saturday.
Chatham then asked if James was entering his bulldog into the "Trickiest" or "Cutest" categories of the contest, and James replied "yes," making sure everyone knew his dog's name is Daisy.
After showing she could sit and how adorable she truly was with James' and his mother's guidance, Daisy sealed the deal, winning the "cutest" dog at the contest. Other categories included "trickiest," "most handsome" and "best dressed." The contest gave top prizes in each category worth more than $100 each, thanks to its 10 sponsors.
This popular contest was just one of the plethora of activities available during the annual Osage Beach Fall Festival, sponsored by the City of Osage Beach. This year's event was moved to the Osage Beach City Hall after a few years held at the Osage Beach City Park. The park suffered extensive damage following the storms and floods of Aug. 6-7; it remains closed to the public until further notice as city staff continue to work on repairs.
Activities included performances from Branson's Heart to Heart, the MDC-sponsored kids pellet gun shooting and other activities, bounce houses and inflatables, petting zoo, Adopt-A-Pet booths, educational booths and displays, health and wellness information, a variety of craft and arts vendors and archery demonstrations provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation, to name a few.
The City of Osage Beach also held a public forum during its fall festival. Under a large city tent, guests to the public forum portion of the event found information and discussed the following topics with city staff: liquor licenses; resident participation at board meeting; how to access agendas, board packets, minutes and ordinances on line; sales tax rates throughout Osage Beach; updated information on building codes, including permit requirements; deer hunt scheduled to begin Sept. 15 (information and applications); animal licensing materials and requirements; annexation material and other planning data; recycling, including waste oil; backflow information; latest updates on Lee C. Fine and Grand Glaize airports; and information on the Citywide Garage Sale scheduled for Sept. 14. The Osage Beach Police Department also had additional information available at their booth.
