Michael Dixon eligible at Memphis this season

September 4th, 2013 in News

Michael Dixon will be suiting up for the Tigers come November.

Just not the Missouri Tigers.

Dixon was granted a waiver by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon, making him eligible to play for the Memphis Tigers for the 2013-14 season.

Dixon, who was kicked off Missouri's basketball team last November after a female student accused him of sexual assault, will join a veteran Memphis backcourt that includes Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford and Geron Johnson, all of who averaged double-digit scoring last season.

As a junior during the 2011-12 season for Missouri, Dixon averaged 13.5 points and 3.3 assists per game off the bench and earned national sixth man of the year honors from several media outlets.

Dixon transferred to Memphis in June, and it was unclear until Wednesday if he would be able to play immediately or if he'd have to sit out the normal one-year transfer period.

The answer gives Memphis a nice boost to a team already expected to be in the preseason Top 25.
