Helias, Jeff City have good finishes at Invitational

It was a solid day on the golf course for a few area teams.

Jefferson City and Helias both posted respectable finishes in the 19-team field during Wednesday morning's Helias Invitational at Meadow Lake Acres. But the real highlight came from Russellville's Kelsey Schrimpf, who carded a hole-in-one on hole No. 6.

Jefferson City finished fifth with a 357, Helias came in seventh at 376 and California placed eighth with a 390.

Notre Dame won the event with a 330, Warrensburg was second with a 348 and Blue Springs South took third with a 354.

Brooke Thompson led the Lady Jays by carding a 79. Rounding out Jefferson City's day were Hope Watson (80), Ellie Severance (98), Blair Michael (100) and Caroline Hall (108).

Jenna Kosmatka paced Helias with an 85. Other scorers for the Lady Crusaders were Laura Plunkett (92), Maggie Kehoe (99), Ashen Lorts (100) and Hanna Berendzen (104).

Haley Goans topped California's card with a 94. Also for the Lady Pintos were Rylee Glenn (96), Becca Hamilton (98), Sophie Brant (102) and Renee Roberts (114).

Russellville's Schrimpf completed a solid outing by posting an 83. Madison Oliver (104), Madie Bungart (106) and Chantz Grellner (137) rounded out the squad.

School of the Osage's Taylor Hayes was the overall medalist with a 71. Her teammate, Devin Henderson, shot a 99.

Southern Boone was led by Hannah Muroski with an 87. Other Lady Eagles finishers were Ashton McCloud (105), Mattison Ditter (113), Katie Gouly (125) and Sophie Berendzen (140).

Helias is back in action at 4 p.m. today at Rock Bridge, while Jefferson City resumes play Monday at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.
