The Jefferson City Jays want to make a little soccer program history.
The Jays have never won two games in the Art Firley Shootout, which starts today at the 179 Soccer Park. And with Chaminade and Kickapoo on the schedule, it won't be easy.
"It's a great chance for us, a challenge," Jays coach Eddie Horn said. "We hope we can somehow find a way to win two games. If we do that, we know we'll have beaten two very good teams."
Jefferson City opens against Chaminade, currently ranked No. 1 in Class 3 in the state and No. 42 in the country by Student Sports, at 4 p.m.
Chaminade beat Jefferson City 3-0 in the Shootout last year. Jefferson City has one win against Chaminade, that coming in 2009 in St. Louis.
The Jays will close the event against Kickapoo at 1 p.m. Saturday.
"Traditionally, they're very strong," Horn said.
Two other games are slated for today. Blue Valley (Kan.) Northwest will face C.B.C. at 6 p.m., with Rockhurst facing Kickapoo at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Chaminade and Blue Valley Northwest will meet at 9 a.m, followed by C.B.C. and Rockhurst at 11 a.m.

On Thursday night, the Jays jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 15 minutes on their way to a 7-2 victory at Camdenton.
Aaron Crane totaled two goals and two assists in the victory. Marcus Woodruff also scored twice, while Jordan Carron and Romando Thomas had a goal each.
Nate Luebbert had two assists for Jefferson City (16-3. ranked No. 7 in Class 3), while Jastin Margalanes had one.
In the junior varsity game, Trent Sigmond had the lone goal in Jefferson City's 1-0 victory.
