SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear a case challenging the constitutionality of a sweep for illegal drugs at a Springfield high school.
The Springfield News-Leader (http://is.gd/MPQrdq ) reports that it all started in April 2010 when a drug dog visited a Central High School classroom. No drugs were found. But 2013 graduate Connor Mizer alleged his Fourth Amendment rights against unlawful search and seizure were violated.
A U.S. District judge dismissed the case in January 2012 after finding in favor of the Springfield school district and Greene County sheriff's Office "on all counts." An 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel later upheld the decision.
School district attorney Ransom Ellis III says the high court's refusal to hear the case means there is "no other legal option."
