The Missouri Department of Conservation is sponsoring an outdoor skills lesson in the basic rifle shooting from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2727 Wesley St.
There is no cost for the program, but pre-registration is required by Oct. 18. Participants can pre-register by calling 573-815-7901, ext. 3388.
Participants will learn the basics of rifle operation, firearms safety, maintenance and rifle shooting fundamentals. Rifle shooting techniques, matching a rifle with a scope and sighting will be discussed.
Participants can follow up this classroom session with practice on the range with a free rifle sight-in day from 8 a.m.-noon Nov. 9 at Scrivner Road Conservation Area.
Participants under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
