A Columbia man was taken into custody this week in connection with a shooting that occurred in Jefferson City in October.
Channing Tyler Williams, 19, was arrested on a Cole County warrant in the shooting that took place in the early morning hours of Oct. 6.
As of Friday afternoon, Williams was being held in Boone County for unrelated charges there.
While what exactly led to the shooting has not been made clear, Jefferson City police reports show the emergency communications center began receiving calls to respond to 1425 Missouri Blvd. for a shooting victim.
When officers arrived on the scene, they determined that the victim, a 19-year-old Columbia resident, had been struck by gunfire and was suffering from a single wound to the back.
The initial investigation determined that the shooting did not occur at the Missouri Boulevard business, but instead in the 1500 block of Edmonds Street. The victim had gone to the business to seek help.
Officers responded to the Edmonds Street area and located evidence consistent with the victim's story. They determined several rounds were fired in the area, but could find no other victims.
Another Columbia resident, Aaron Harris, 21, has been charged in the case with discharging a firearm from a vehicle at a person as well as armed criminal action.
Because he was indicted by the Cole County grand jury, the probable cause statement in Harris's case was not made public.
