I am writing in support of and to encourage the City Council to select the Capital Mall site as the site for Jefferson City's proposed convention center.
The mall site is readily accessible and has considerable on site parking. A downtown site will require the acquisition of property for and the construction of a parking garage which will add considerably to the overall cost of the convention center project.
It is clear that the community does not want to subsidize a convention center and therefore the cost thereof must be controlled. The Capital Mall proposal does not require any operating subsidy from the city and appears to be the most viable proposal.
The community has waited a considerable time for a convention center and the Capital Mall proposal appears to be the most viable proposal from an economic perspective and from a taxpayer's perspective.
