Lincoln women romp to first victory of season

FAYETTE, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team evened its record for the season with a win Saturday.

One night after dropping their season opener, the Blue Tigers routed Hannibal-LaGrange 74-40 in the Central Methodist Eagles Classic.

The Blue Tigers raced out to a 17-2 lead to start the game, only to see the Trojans climb back to within 27-17 lead at the break.

However, Lincoln outscored Hannibal-LaGrange 47-23 in the second half.

The Blue Tigers' biggest lead came at 70-32 when Jaleisha Barret made a basket with 6:06 left in the contest. They matched that 38-point margin at 72-34 when Kieanna Wharton scored a bucket with 2:28 left.

Angela Randall pumped in a game-high 18 points to pace the Blue Tigers and also led all Lincoln players with seven rebounds. Kelsey Griffin added 13 points for Lincoln, as the Blue Tigers played 10 players and nine scored.

The Blue Tigers forced Hannibal-LaGrange into a whopping 31 turnovers while committing just 16 of their own.

Lincoln (1-1) hosts McKendree at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jason Gym.
