Throughout its 2013 Community Campaign, the United Way of Central Missouri has echoed a line from the 1979 classic "The Muppet Movie."
"Someday, we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me," Kermit the Frog famously sang.
The United Way of Central Missouri, its 24 partner agencies and sponsors are working toward finding that rainbow connection, a vision for the community.
The agency announced Thursday a projected total of $1,731,843 from fundraising efforts that began nearly three months ago. The announcement was made during a community campaign victory celebration at Missouri Farm Bureau. The fundraising goal was $1.7 million.
"Our incredible community has helped us to supersede the goal by a projected $31,000 plus," said Lori Massman, a campaign co-chair.
Campaign co-chair Andy Fechtel said the projected total depends on several campaigns that are ongoing and a few that haven't started yet.
"We're counting on those who are still running campaigns to finish strong so we can meet this projected total," he said.
The community campaign included more than two months of fundraising from 439 individuals, 531 businesses and 136 workplace campaigns. The funds raised help fund the United Way's 24 partner agencies in Cole, Miller, Moniteau, Osage and southern Callaway counties.
Ann Bax, president of the United Way of Central Missouri, said the selfless, compassionate and generous community is a true blessing.
"It confirms our belief that the community believes in us, and it ensures we can continue our work," she said.
