Falls in softball to Washington

COLUMBIA - The Washington Huskies scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings Thursday night to edge the Missouri Tigers 2-1 in an NCAA Super Regional softball contest at University Field.

Missouri broke on top of the scoreless game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kelsea Roth singled home Emily Crane.

Washington tied it in the seventh when a Shawna Wright single brought home Dani Braun.

In the eighth, Kelli Suguro led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. Victoria Hayward followed with a double to plate Suguro with the game-winner.

Chelsea Thomas took the loss for the Tigers. She went eight innings, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Bryana Walker was the winner in relief for Washington. She worked the final two innings, striking out two and facing the minimum six batters.

Missouri (38-13) will need to win two games Friday against Washington (42-15) to advance to the College Softball World Series. The first game is scheduled for 5 p.m. (ESPNU-TV). A second, if necessary game, will follow at around 8 p.m. (ESPN-TV).
