Rotary Club donates $39,000 to charities

The Jefferson City West Rotary Club raffled off a 2013 Ford Fusion from Joe Machens Capital City Ford Lincoln after selling 2,500 raffle tickets from March 1 through April 21 and raising nearly $57,000.

Local charities benefited from $39,000 of the proceeds. The remaining $18,000 paid for the car.

The Rotary Club is donating $3,000 to 13 different nonprofits, including the Special Learning Center, Kenneth Kirchner State School, Vogelweid Learning Center, Boys and Girls Club of the Capital City, Missouri Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters, Friends of the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, Rape and Abuse Crisis Service, Samaritan Center, Homemaker Healthcare, Missouri Kids First, Salvation Army, Jefferson City Public School Foundation and Council for Drug Free Youth.

The winner of the raffle was Richard Pemberton of Jefferson City, who accepted $18,000 in prize money instead of the Ford Fusion.
