The Jefferson City Police Department participated in the statewide Youth Alcohol Enforcement Campaign from May 2-13.
During the enforcement effort, officers issued 362 tickets including: 50 seat belt tickets; four child restraint tickets; 64 speeding tickets; three driving while intoxicated tickets; four minor in possession of alcohol tickets and 237 additional tickets for various other traffic violations.
It is illegal for someone under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcohol in Missouri, and Missouri has a zero tolerance law. If someone under the age of 21 is caught driving with even a trace of alcohol in his or her system, the driver's license can be suspended.
Law enforcement throughout the state participated in the enforcement campaign on underage drinking to ensure Missouri youth celebrated safe and sober during the prom and graduation season.
Authorities cite figures that show impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities.
Between 2010 and 2012, 77 people were killed and 363 seriously injured in Missouri traffic crashes involving an impaired driver under the age of 21.
