Prom season campaign targets drunken drivers

May 3rd, 2013 in News

With the prom season in high gear, the Jefferson City Police Department will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunken driving through May 13.

Authorities said it is illegal for someone younger than 21 to possess or consume alcohol in Missouri, yet youths make up a significant proportion of drunken drivers causing traffic crashes on Missouri roadways.

Missouri has a Zero Tolerance Law. If you are younger than 21 and you're caught driving with even a trace of alcohol in your system, your license can be suspended.

Between 2010 and 2012, 77 people were killed and 363 seriously injured in Missouri roadway crashes involving an impaired driver younger than 21.
