Your Opinion: Bible urges us to help people in need

Dear Editor:

We all were shocked at the bombing at the Boston Marathon. We want the people who are responsible for this caught and punished as well as others who want to do harm to us. These people do not value human life as we do. But do we value all human life?

Do you know that over 10,000 children die each day in other countries from starvation? Are we to look the other way and say these people and children don't count? Do we say they are not flesh and blood as we are? Does God want us to not feed are help these people? In America a small number of children die of starvation. My research shows maybe 10 or so die each year. Yes, I said year.

In the Bible James 2, 14-17 said: "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food and one of you says to them, Go in peace, keep warm and eat well but you don't give them what the body needs, what good is it? In the same way faith, if it doesn't have works is dead by itself."

We have our cell phones, big screen TVs, nice cars, nice houses and many other things we feel we must have.

If we are hungry and can't afford food, we have many food banks and churches to keep us healthy and alive. We spent money to eat out and many times we overeat.

If everyone would give $5 or more each month, we could cut the children dying number down and someday have a "0" death rate from starvation.

If you do some research, you will find organizations that give 80 percent of all donations to feed the children. I use "Feed My Starvation Children" for my donation. They give 92 percent of each dollar given for food for starving children. They use volunteers to mix the food and they do put in vitamins. They are a Christian organization.

If you do some research you can find other organizations that feed the starving. We have so much in America. The Bible lets us know that if we do God's work, we must help starving people. I feel we will have to answer for why we have so much and we did not help these starving children.
