Area basketball players named to all-district teams

Numerous area players landed spots on the Central All-District basketball teams selected by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association that were released today.

In addition, four area coaches were named Coach of the Year in their respective classes - Helias' Josh Buffington for the Class 4 boys, Eldon's Tony Pace for the Class 4 girls, Fatima's Ryan Robertson for the Class 3 boys and Chamois' Marty Gerloff for the Class 1 girls.

Jefferson City had one boy and one girl named to the Class 5 teams, as Scott Stegeman and Megan Foster made the list.

Among the Class 4 boys, Helias was represented by Hale Hentges and Isiah Sykes, while Eldon landed Chris Hulsey and Zac Shreve on the team.

The Helias Lady Crusaders and Eldon Lady Mustangs had three players each on the Class 4 girls team. Helias got Taylor Hagenhoff, Emma Verslues and Bre Zanders, while Eldon got Ashley Hogan, Sara Rhine and Jordyn Schmidt.

The Fatima Comets, fresh off a third-place finish in Class 3, landed two players on the Class 3 first team, Tanner Gentges and Patrick Schnieders. Other first-teamers were California's Jaden Barr, Southern Boone's Nick Carlos, Eugene's Cody Shaw and Blair Oaks' Brett Voss.

Among the Class 3 girls, first-teamers included Fatima's Morgan Brandt, California's Sydney Deeken, Blair Oaks' LeeAnn Polowy and Versailles' Madison Sherman.

Two area boys made the Class 2 first team, Russellville's Brenden Jackson and Tipton's Ethan Koechner.

On the girls side, Class 2 first-teamers were Linn's Brittany Bexten, Tipton's Loryn Hirst, Vienna's Emma Schiermeier and Russellville's Kennedy Volkart.

Class 1 boys first-teamers included Jamestown's Alden Rohrbach and Chamois' Eli Strobel.

The Chamois Lady Pirates, who finished second in the state in Class 1, had three first-team picks - Miranda Brandt, Alyssa Bullock and Alison Mehmert.

Other area players honored on that team were Tuscumbia's Tempary Gunter, St. Elizabeth's Allie Heckemeyer and Savannah Stiles, and Jamestown's Mickayla Strother.
