Church launches home repair ministry

A new home repair program will be available to low-income homeowners within a 15-mile radius of Jefferson City.

Hearts, Hands, Hammers (H3) is a new ministry of Wesley United Methodist Church, 2727 Wesley Drive.

The goal is to help improve the quality of life by improving living conditions that contribute to worsening poverty.

Eligibility will be determined by income guidelines, with preferential consideration given to the handicapped, elderly, single parents or parents of handicapped children in the home.

If selected, the homeowner would be expected to donate $25 to H3 for a project survey.

H3 will invite mission-oriented, adult and youth teams from across the nation to come to Jefferson City to work on the home projects. Those teams would purchase the necessary building materials and perform the labor at no cost to the homeowner.

Work will be done during June and July.

Repairs might include interior ceiling, walls, flooring, painting, exterior porch, deck doors, windows, small wheelchair ramps and other disability-accessible projects, and roofing repair and shingling.

Interested homeowners may request an application by writing to Wesley UMC, Hearts Hands Hammers, 2727 Wesley Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
