Your Opinion: Compensation concern

Your Opinion: Compensation concern

March 14th, 2013 by Bob Kettler, Jefferson City in News

Dear Editor:

As I stated in previous letters about compensation for Ameren's staff, it has finally been established that it has occurred.

Ameren Corporate's chairman, president and CEO received a 9 percent increase in total compensation in 2012.

Our rates have increased by 40-plus percent since 2007, their compensation increased by 9 percent and now they want a free hand to add surcharges to our bill for infrastructure repairs. Enough with the abuse. I know what their response will be about this bonus, "it did not come from the money rate increases."

Where ever it came from doesn't matter; what matters is it was not used for the infrastructure program but to fatten the executives wallet. Any businessman will tell you that they use their profits to improve their business, not raise their prices or ask their customers to pay for improvements.

I find it difficult to believe that Sen. Kehoe was not aware of this executive compensation package. He has shown his true colors, and they aren't for his constituents. I know where my vote in 2014 is going.

We need another Boston Tea Party; any suggestions on how it should be done? Perhaps if 75 percent of Ameren's customers would refuse to pay their bill, it might bring some sanity to this utility farce.
