Man gets probation for attempted copper theft

March 9th, 2013 in News

A Jefferson City man was recently placed on two years unsupervised probation for pleading guilty to amended charges in connection with a March 2012 break-in at an abandoned home in attempt to take copper plumbing and wiring.

Chance Barnhouse, 18, of 1115 E. High St., pleaded guilty to misdemeanor second-degree property damage and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

He had been charged with felony second-degree burglary and resisting arrest.

Barnhouse must also complete 40 hours of community service.

Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements show a witness heard glass break at the home in the 200 block of Olive Street.

When officers arrived, they saw Barnhouse running from the house.

He was caught in the 1100 block of East High Street.

Barnhouse told officers he threw a rock through a window to gain entry to the home.

Charges were recently dismissed against a Jefferson City man from January 2012. Ardaris Cheatham, 28, of 404 Hiview Drive, had been charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
