Lincoln women to open MIAA postseason

After heading there just last Friday to wrap up the regular season, the Lincoln Blue Tigers women's basketball team knows the way to Hays, Kan.

Now they need to find a way to pick up a win.

The Blue Tigers open the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assocation's Women's Basketball Championships tonight against Tigers (7 p.m.). Lincoln (11-15, 6-12 conference) enters the tournament as the No. 11 seed, while Fort Hays State (12-6, 20-6) is seeded sixth.

Fort Hays State jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and bested Lincoln 91-66 last Friday. Kate Lehman, who was named the MIAA Player of the Week, had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Tigers. She was one of four Fort Hays State players in double figures.

Arriana Walker was the lone Blue Tiger to score in double figures in the contest, finishing with 21 points.

This is the second straight season Lincoln has qualified for the MIAA Championships. Last year, Lincoln defeated Pittsburg State 83-77 in the quarterfinals before falling 68-60 to Emporia State in the semifinals.

Tonight's winner advances to take on third-seeded Northeastern State (14-4, 19-7) in the quarterfinals Friday at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
